The Human Edit
The Human Edit
Used AI? Great. Now let a human read it.
AI is remarkably useful.
It can help you organise your thoughts, get past the blank page, create a first draft and turn a collection of half-formed ideas into something that resembles actual writing.
But sometimes the finished result is technically fine and still doesn’t sound quite like you.
The sentences are too polished. The phrasing is generic. The same point appears three times in slightly different clothes. Words have crept in that you’d never normally use.
And occasionally you read it back and think:
I would never bloody say that.
AI isn’t necessarily the problem. How it’s being used often is.
Good prompting and personalisation can make an enormous difference, but the final result still needs judgement. The Human Edit isn’t about pretending AI wasn’t involved. It’s about making sure the finished words still belong to the person whose name is on them.
The Human Edit takes AI-assisted writing and turns it back into clear, credible, natural communication while keeping your own voice and the actual content intact.
I’m not here to remove every trace that AI helped you.
I’m here to make sure the finished version sounds like you did.
This might be for you if…
You’ve used ChatGPT or another AI tool to help create something and the result doesn’t quite sound like you.
The information is right, but the writing feels generic.
Your natural voice has disappeared somewhere underneath all the polish.
Something that should be straightforward has become unnecessarily long.
You’re seeing repetition, too many headings or the same sentence structure appearing again and again.
The tone feels too formal, too enthusiastic, too corporate or simply not like something you’d actually say.
Or perhaps you can’t identify exactly what’s wrong.
You just know you wouldn’t have written it like that.
That’s enough.
What can I edit?
The Human Edit works particularly well for existing content such as:
Website copy, articles and blog posts, LinkedIn posts, newsletters, business communications, applications and supporting statements, biographies and About pages, reports, presentations and other written material where sounding like an actual human matters.
The important distinction is existing content.
You give me the draft. I make it better.
If what you’ve got actually needs substantial rewriting or completely new content creating, I’ll tell you before doing anything beyond the agreed edit.
How it works
First, I get to know the voice
I’ll ask you a few short questions:
Who is this for?
What should it achieve?
What doesn’t feel right about it now?
Is there anything that must stay?
And, where possible, I’ll ask for an example of something you’ve written yourself that genuinely sounds like you.
Because the objective isn’t to make everybody sound like me.
It’s to make you sound more like you.
Then I read it as a human
Before I start tinkering with individual sentences, I read the whole thing.
I’m looking for the point where I stop believing the person whose name is on it actually wrote it.
That might be generic AI phrasing, repetition, unnecessary explanation, unnatural vocabulary, formulaic structure, excessive headings, fake enthusiasm or a level of polish that has removed every trace of personality.
Then I edit for:
Voice
Does this sound like you?
Clarity
Is it saying what you actually mean?
Flow
Does it read naturally?
Economy
Can we say it without taking the scenic route?
Tone
Does it sound right for the person reading it?
And, of course:
AI residue
What has the machine left behind that no human being needs?
What you’ll get
You’ll receive a clean, edited version of your content, with tracked changes where practical so you can see what’s been altered.
Where it’s useful, I’ll also include a short editorial note explaining any significant changes or areas worth considering.
And I won’t rewrite perfectly good sentences merely to prove I’ve done some work.
If it already works, it stays.
The final question is very simple:
Does this sound like a real person who knows what they’re trying to say?
If the answer is yes, we’re done.
From £65
Pricing is based on the length of the material:
Up to 1,000 words: £65
1,001–2,000 words: £95
2,001–3,500 words: £145
Over 3,500 words: quoted individually
Standard Human Edits are usually returned within three working days once I’ve received everything I need.
If the material needs substantial rewriting rather than editing, I’ll let you know and agree any additional cost with you first.
No surprise invoice because your 900-word article turned out to need open-heart surgery.
What happens next?
Send me the piece you’d like edited along with a little context about you, the audience and what you want it to achieve.
I’ll confirm that it’s suitable for The Human Edit, the price and when you’ll receive it back.
Then you hand it over.
I’ll deal with the AI tells, repetition, generic phrasing and unnecessarily elaborate language.
You still get to sound like you. Just without the robot showing through.
