Something Else?

Something Else?

You might have looked through the other services and thought:

That’s not quite what I need, but I think you could help me with it.

You may well be right.

I’ve spent decades solving problems, improving communication, writing and editing, dealing with businesses, customers and people, and generally working out how to make things clearer or work better.

Not every useful piece of work fits neatly under a service heading.

If you’ve got a specific piece of work and think I might be the right person for it, tell me what you need. If I can help, I’ll tell you how.

This is deliberately not a list of miscellaneous services.

It’s a route for clearly defined, finite pieces of work that sit naturally within my experience but don’t quite fit one of the other Wise Edit services.

Perhaps you need something written rather than edited.

You might have a document, presentation or piece of communication that needs creating from scratch.

You may have a small business project that needs an experienced pair of hands and a fresh brain.

Or you’ve got something slightly unusual and you’re simply not sure where it belongs.

You don’t need to categorise it for me.

Tell me what you’re trying to achieve and what you’d like help with.

Start by telling me:

What do you need help with?
What would you like me to do?
What would a useful finished result look like?
Is there a deadline?
Is there anything I need to see to understand the work?

I’ll look at what you’re asking for and decide whether I’m the right person for it.

If it actually belongs under one of my existing services, I’ll point you there.

If it’s something I can help with as a standalone project, I’ll define the scope and give you a price.

And if it isn’t something I should be doing, I’ll tell you that too.

Before any work begins, we’ll agree:

What you’re giving me
What I’m doing
What you’ll receive
When you’ll receive it
What it will cost

That way, we both know exactly what the piece of work includes.

If something additional comes up afterwards, we can decide separately whether you want me to do that too.

Something Else? isn’t an open-ended arrangement for whatever happens to crop up.

I don’t offer ongoing administration, diary management, customer service or general operational support.

And agreeing to one piece of work doesn’t quietly make me responsible for everything vaguely related to it for the foreseeable future.

It’s a defined project with a beginning, an end and an agreed result.

Because the work can vary, Something Else? doesn’t have a standard price.

Once I understand what you need, I’ll scope the work and give you a clear price before you decide whether to go ahead.

No vague hourly meter running in the background.

No mystery invoice afterwards.

You know what you’re buying and what it costs before I start.

Tell me what you’re working on, what you’d like help with and what you need at the end of it.

If I can help, I’ll tell you how.

If I can’t, I’ll tell you that too.

Think it might be something for me?
