You Are Not Your Job (Even if you’re good at it)

For a long time, work was just… what I did.

It filled the week.
It gave structure.
It gave a sense of purpose.

And if I’m honest, I was good at it.

Reliable.
Capable.
The one who got things done.

You don’t question that when it’s working.
You just carry on.

But somewhere along the way, it becomes more than a job.

It becomes part of how you see yourself.
Part of how other people see you too.

And that’s where it gets a bit blurred.

Because when something shifts – the role, the environment, the people,
you realise how much of your identity was tied up in something that was never really you.

Just something you did well.

That’s a strange place to land at first.

But also a useful one.

Because it gives you the chance to separate the two.

What you’re capable of…
and who you actually are.

They’re not the same thing.

And once you see that, you start to make different decisions.
